A Share Cropper's Son
Sometimes, looking back on the past and reflecting on the life style I was raised up in sure makes me appreciate where the Lord has brought me to. I grew up in a family of ten children (five boys and five girls). I was the eldest child and yes, my father was a “share crop farmer.” We were blessed to survive from day to day. We worked long hard hours on that farm. Many days we worked from daylight until after dark. Being the oldest child and a boy….I set the example for the other children in our family. They did not always follow my example; however, it was available to them. I worked a regular job at a sawmill for two years to help support my family before going into the U.S. Navy at the age of seventeen. I sent an allotment home to my mother for two years after going into the military to help with my brothers and sisters. This left me with $15.00 a month for my necessities. I earned additional money by shining shoes and doing laundry for some of my fellow service members. I’m not complaining….I’m just thankful that the Lord has always had his hand upon me! I’ve told you this to give you a little background of how it relates to my walk with God….today.
When the Lord starts dealing with people who have come into the truth about winning souls, I envision it as the world being a giant garden. Sounds strange? Bare with me! When you start making a garden, you’re not going to have only one kind of plant in your garden, you’re going to have several different vegetables. The first thing you want to do is get rid of all the weeds that you possibly can! This is accomplished by plowing the soil (preferably) in the fall of the year….letting it lay exposed to the elements until early spring, turning the soil again, then disking the soil until your garden is a virtual seedbed. Now…you’re ready to begin sowing the seed. Genesis 47:23. Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land! This same theory can be applied to “soul winning.” Have you considered the words of some of our church songs? “Sowing seeds of kindness”? Christians need to think before they engage their tongue, in many instances. The Bible says “do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Matthew 7:12-Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets. I promise you that if everyone would apply that commandment for one day….it would change the whole world! We have Salvation. The Lord has given us understanding of the scriptures when he filled us with his spirit…so shouldn’t we impart or share that same knowledge and understanding with our brothers and sisters? If “true Christians” will bind together in prayer and fasting and ask the Lord to intervene and open the blind eyes and open the deft ears and let people become hungry to see and hear this “Bible Truth,” I believe the Lord will honor that request! We will never win souls by looking down our noses at them. The people that need help in understanding the Bible are the exact ones that Jesus died on Calvary for! We must be kind, compassionate and understanding to the lost. If we are good examples to sinners and backsliders, they will see that and they will feel the presence of the Lord when we witness to them. They will realize that we have something that they need and would like to have. The Lord loves the sinner and backslider! He does not love what they are doing, but he loves their soul and he died on Calvary for them! Some of you parents have children that do things that you don’t understand or approve of; however, you still love your children. That’s the way the Lord feels about sinners and backsliders. He does not like or approve of what they are doing, whether it’s their lifestyle or their spirit or attitude; however God still loved them enough to give himself on an old rugged cross so they can have salvation. It’s available and it is their choice to choose eternal life or death. We just need to be kind enough to pray and fast for them and ask God to stir their hearts and let us witness to them.
The problem with people that aren’t right with God today is: In many cases they have been deceived! We have many Churches that do not preach and teach the whole Bible Truth! We have people who go to Church, yet they do things which is not consistent with what the word of God teaches. There is an order of God as to how we should live after we come into the Church!
In Amos 9:13 -Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.
When you are planting and raising a crop…there’s a lot of hard work involved. But, as a “share cropper” the harder you work and the more hours you dedicate to the work you’re doing, the greater your reward. Share croppers get paid a percentage of the crop. So, the larger the crop, the greater your reward! During this lifetime, I would love to help and direct as many souls as possible from darkness to the Kingdom of God and eternal life! I would to God that everyone that reads this message would become a "Share Cropper" and dedicate their lives to gathering the "Harvest"!
