Spirits That Destroy-Disobedience
Ephesians 5:6, Colossians 3:6, Hebrews 2:2-4
A. Obedience: “sama,” Active response to that which is taught, acting upon revealed truth, the obligation of compliance with.
B. When truth is revealed we are obligated to nothing less than complete conformity to the divine laws of God. This is the only thing that will be acceptable to God. Self-surrender to God and complete obedience to his commands must be the object to our constant endeavors.
C. Obedience is more important than all forms of religion, sacrafices, offerings, rituals, cermonies, etc. I Samuel 15:22-23
D. Obedience is the Chief end of all true religion. Disobedience and stubborness is a manifestation of failure in conforming to truth.
E. Disobedience stems from self-will and a doubt concerning the rightness of God's commands. This evil spirit will cause you to become presumptuous...i.e. To become bold or over confident, to dare to do that which God's commands not to do, or not to do that which he commands. To take ungranted liberties, to act with unwarranted boldness.
F. To disobey with knowledge iniquity ...Trangression of divine law with knowledge, willful sin, which brings the penalty of eternal damnation.
G. God's Grace, Mercy, Promises, Eternal Life, etc is based upon obedience. Without obedience, we lose these claimed promises...Romans 5:19
H. Disobedience caused Adam and the human race to lose their spiritual and eternal state with God. Eternal Salvation is based upon obedience. Hebrews 5:9
I. God's blessings to you are based upon obedience...Isaiah 1:19
J. Disobedience is subject to ex-communication...II Thessalonians 3:14
K. It is folly to disobey...it deprives you of all eternal blessings, it brings severe disapprobation of God. It will end in everlasting and irremediable ruin.
L. Disobedience against the word, is sinning against those attributes wherein God will glorify himself most. Disobedience against light, is to prefer to remain or walk in darkness.
M. Those who know and yet disobey will be beaten with many stripes...Luke 12:47 Why?
1. Because disobedience with knowledge shows an inconsideration for God's law. It shows contempt for God's law. Contempt: To disgrace, to lower the dignity of, to dispise or disgrace as nought the law of God, to consider it as of no importance, as contempt of court.
2. Disobedience acts as if God's law was not worthy of serious consideration.
3. Disobedience is contempt of God's wisdom as expressed in his laws, as if one thought he could guide and govern himself better than God. Here God...I don't need you...I'll be my own God.
4. Disobedience shows an attitude toward God's commands as if they were not worth considering.
5. Disobedience treats as worthless the things which are of supreme worth and importance.
N. The Holy Scriptures are given to instruct us, to make us partakers of his wisdom, to reveal or make known his will, etc. To disobey the word is to show contempt toward, and do despite unto the spirit of Grace. Disobedience places you in direct violation of God's law, thus bringing about God's disfavor upon you.
